B13 Technology is an awarding-winning Software Technology Consultancy based in Central Birmingham.

Have you got what it takes to become our next Digital Explorer? We love making Digital Solutions accessible to all, using our brilliant onshore management team alongside our world-class offshore development team in Vietnam.

We also love ensuring that the workplace is an accessible and friendly environment where all our employees can thrive. This is why we offer flexible-working opportunities from day one.

Vacancy: Mission Controller

What would you be doing?

As Digital Explorers our projects are our missions. We are looking for a super-organised mission controller who can oversee the requirements between the client and the mission team.

It’s likely to be pretty varied but will include the following;

  • Act as a client advocate to ensure that all internal departments understand clients’ requirements and respond with the right quality of service and communication.
  • Work with product development teams, ensuring that the product reflects changing client needs throughout the journey
  • Coordinate the work of technical teams to provide clients with the different services they need throughout their product development eg hosting, support, maintenance, scope change
  • Provide client with software development itinerary by initialising mission and monitoring take-off,  transit and landing.
  • Ensure the implementation of internal policies and practices
  • Maintain budget and track expenditures/transactions
  • Client liaison to discuss mission progress, changes and handling any adjustments required for the project. Making sure the client enjoys the itinerary of the software journey you take them on and is left with the feeling of how empowering tech can be for them and their business.

Our missions are all bespoke software development projects. We work in many different programming languages offering many different solutions, no two projects are the same. You will need to think on your feet, ask the right questions and come up with great suggestions to ensure the client and development teams are all singing from the same hymn sheet.

  • Slack
  • Jira

  • Toggl

We love automating all our work processes but still value the human who oversees them all. These are a few of the day-to-day tools we use, we’re more than happy to show you around them all as long as you have an aptitude for picking things up quickly

Where would you be doing it?

Anywhere and everywhere. We have an office based in iCentrum, Birmingham, where we come together for meetings and face-to-face requirements or for those that prefer a day-to-day place of work. We are happy for you to organize and manage your own work schedule to accommodate remote-working wherever possible.

What sort of person are we looking for?

  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Fast-learner - One of our mottos is “fail-fast”, we don’t like to waste time going down the wrong route and we don’t always get it right first time.
  • Good problem-solving skills - With bespoke development comes bespoke problems. We like people who can adapt to each situation and find ways of overcoming any blockers. An analytical approach is key to this role.
  • Not afraid to make mistakes - We’re all about psychological safety at work, an environment where input and questions are actively encouraged. No idea is a stupid idea - except eating yellow snow, that is a stupid idea
  • Innovative - we’re all about fresh ideas and exciting new approaches. In an industry that changes faster than you can blink, we want to surround ourselves with people who are excited to explore and discover.

Bonus points for any of the following:

  • Knowing all about the DC character Brainiac - the actual inspiration behind the name B13, not just a Moseley postcode
  • Musical - we love music and talk endlessly about one day setting up our own band, the “B-13ers”, if our dream comes true one day we’d love you to be involved
  • Good party games and tricks - we love our get-togethers outside of work and who doesn’t love a party trick?

We’re looking for someone pretty quickly and a culture fit is really key to our happy team. If you think you have what it takes for this role and could nail it, even though your previous experience doesn’t necessarily “tick the boxes”, don’t be shy! We are more than happy to give the right person the right support to get up to speed. Send us over a CV, letter, video...whichever medium tells us what we need to know about you to by 6th November.
